What It Covers

A Training System in Eight Parts

Ski Strong for Life is not a workout collection. It is a structured methodology — from initial assessment through year-round programming — built for skiers who want to train with intent, not just train more.

Part I
Foundations
Why masters skiers need a different approach. The Three Pillars of Ski Performance. Ski biomechanics in practical terms. What actually changes after 50 and how to train for it.
Chapters 1–4
Part II
Assessment
Movement screening protocol to identify your starting point. How to establish Training Maxes without testing your limits. Conservative loading that builds, not breaks.
Chapters 5–6
Part III
The Annual Program
Your year-round training map: Summer strength foundation, Fall performance preparation, In-season maintenance, Recovery phase. How the seasons connect.
Chapters 7–11
Part IV
Balance & Stability
Progressive balance training that actually transfers to snow. Static through dynamic through reactive. BOSU work — when it helps and when it wastes time. Core as iron, not rubber.
Chapters 12–16
Part V
Endurance
Anti-glycolytic conditioning: why less burn builds more ski endurance. The A+A Protocol. Statodynamics. Building the aerobic engine without the grind.
Chapters 17–19
Part VI
Strength & Performance
Primary barbell lifts. Unilateral and lateral strength. Knee resilience and injury prevention. Power development. Loaded carries. Pre-ski activation protocols.
Chapters 20–26
Part VII
Supporting Your Training
Warm-up and mobility protocols. Nutrition for masters athletes — practical guidance, not a diet plan. Recovery and regeneration: what works and what is overrated.
Chapters 27–29
Part VIII
Quick Reference
Quick Start Guide — your first week of training, written out in full. Troubleshooting and FAQ. Sample training weeks for every season. Equipment guides. Travel templates.
Chapters 30–32 + Appendices

What Makes This Manual Different

There are a lot of fitness books. Most of them are not built for you. This one is.

Ski-Specific, Not Generic

Every exercise was selected for its transfer to skiing performance. Not "fitness with a ski label." The loading, the tempo, the progression — all built for what happens on snow.

Built for Masters Athletes

Not scaled-down programs designed for 25-year-olds. Training that accounts for recovery capacity, connective tissue, neural adaptation, and the specific demands of skiing after 50.

A System, Not a List

33 chapters that connect into a year-round training plan. Assessment through programming through seasonal adjustment. The exercises matter. The order they are trained in matters more.

I spent years as a competitive powerlifter with a strong squat and a strong deadlift. And none of it was making me a better skier. Adding balance, unilateral work, and core stability to the foundation changed everything. That discovery is the foundation of this manual.

Ski Strong for Life is the result of 48 years of training experience, a competitive powerlifting background, StrongFirst and Anti-Glycolytic Training certifications, and a 2016 seminar with legendary strength coach Charles Poliquin that shaped the knee resilience protocols in Chapter 22. Every principle in the manual has been tested — on the gym floor and on the mountain — over decades of continuous training.
